Pacifica’s translators and consultants work as a team.  Each document receives two rounds of proofing, and in the proofing/editing process, the primary translator receives feedback from a secondary reader regarding style, dialect, nuance, accuracy and register.

What sets us apart: In addition to being professional translators, all of Pacifica’s specialists have taught Spanish or ESL, and are trained academic linguists. This level of training equips the language specialist in ways that are quite unique: in addition to a refined ability to attend to lexical and grammatical nuance, and to render ideas as much as words, Pacifica’s specialists analyze language from multiple perspectives, in the way that only linguists with this type of advanced training are prepared to do.

Pacifica offers expert tutoring and private instruction in Spanish language/culture at all levels, from beginning to advanced. Whether you are a language student who needs remedial support or someone who is beginning or continuing language study for purposes of travel, work or personal enrichment, Pacifica will meet your unique needs with a tutor who has 20-30 years of successful language teaching experience. Instruction takes place either in-person or via Skype or Google Plus.

Most tutoring and instruction is done by Dr. Carrie Tamburo. Dr. Tamburo has over 30 years’ experience both as a language professor and in private tutoring with individuals from grade levels five through university. Her fields of specialization are language teaching, language acquisition and teacher training. Having directed Lower Division language programs at major four-year and graduate institutions, her experience in curriculum and materials design is vast. She has taught methods for teaching Spanish as a second/foreign language at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, at San Diego State University, University of California, Irvine and the University of Washington, Seattle. As a consultant, she has also designed curricula for elementary school language programs.

As a tutor/private instructor, Dr. Tamburo’s extensive experience teaching Spanish, directing language programs, as well as her expertise in the field of pedagogy, allow her to zero in quickly on students’ needs, strengths and challenge areas, design materials particularly suited to address their needs.  There is no “one size fits all” approach to tutoring at Pacifica.  Vast files of exercises and materials are available to provide students with whatever they need in order to succeed.
